Organic Black pepper is also called “king of spices” because of its omnipresence
in almost all house-holds and in food processing. Black pepper is known to possess
many pharmacological actions. Black pepper is extensively used traditional systems
of medicine like ayurvedic and Unani system of medicine. We cannot find a restaurant
table without a pepper holder. Piperine is the main bio‐active constituent of black pepper
and it also contains volatile essential oils. Pungency and distinguishing taste of black pepper
is imparted by piperine. It is a naturally occurring alkaloid and been shown to have several
beneficial therapeutic effects. Black pepper because of its valuable bio-active compounds has
anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and bio-enhancing (increases bioavailability of compounds)
properties. Research also shows that black pepper may have several other health benefits
including enhancing digestive tract function. .
